Zooming for Susitna Students

Today Chris took his classes on a Zoom Paddle. It was a fun way to show them the fun of kayaking without needing to bus them all there. I was a great day for a paddle. Can you spot the eagle?

Alana and Ryker hooked onto my kayak and I got an extra arm work out paddling them around.

Wonderful Mothers day!

It was a wonderful Mother's day! I enjoyed a late morning and then snuggling with Alana as she told me about the book she is reading followed by a long uninterrupted jacuzzi tub soak. We went for a family drive and saw some moose. We video chatted with Grandma Susan and the whole Moss clan. Chris made us Steak Oscar followed by ice cream for dessert. I have the best family! Herb scissors, a kite and a rocking camp chair were among the presents as well as foot scrub Alana learned to make in class (thanks to Mrs. Senchantixay) and she tried it out on Chris and I. ❤️❤️

Harvest

Here is the potato plants almost as tall as Alana. We dug out the potatoes today and we ended up with  this small bucket. We have Yukkn Golds and purple potatoes. I will count it as a win for growing our own potatoes but I hope next year we can plant earlier so we can harvest more.

Pyrah’s Fall Festival

We had a great time at the Pyrah’s Fall Festival! They have fun family games and rides! Plus with all the rain this year they had puddles of fun too! FYI water splashes and gets your legs wet when you jump in it and when there is a slight breeze it is freezing!! Ryker has cold hands so I did a Mr. Miyagi to warm them up and realized my kids had not seen it. (Gasp!!) We ended the day by watching The Karate Kid.

Facetime with cousins

I loved growing up close to cousins and since being in Alaska we make it a priority to travel to see family but it is nice that the technology exists for the kids to see and talk with cousins.

Valdez Family Fun

We took a fun trip over to Valdez by way of the Ferry. We started out early on Aug 23 stayed there for a few days and then headed home it was great fun!
Driving through the tunnel and then driving on to the boat.  The truck is secured below deck and we went up top to settle in for the 5 hour trip.

We pull out of port and head on our way to Valdez. It was a great time to relax, have lunch, look at some wildlife and see the amazing state we live in.

Sea otters! but not close enough to get a good picture of them.

 Sea Lions!

Here is Valdez and pulling into port.

We went to a really neat museum and toured around the town checking it out and looking for bears we didn't find any but had a great time.

We went hiking on the John Hunter Memorial trail.  it goes up Solomon Gulch ending at Solomon Lake. Ryker was convinced that it was a nature trail an not a hike. It was such a pretty day.

After the hike we went to the fish hatchery. It was crazy how many salmon there were in the water.  Plus we got to see sea lions feeding on them. The seagulls would even take pieces of salmon right out of the sea lions mouths.

On the way out of town we stopped at the Worthington Glacier. It was fun to see and a quick hike up there.

Ryker wanted to feel how cold the water was coming from the glacier so Chris held his hand so he wouldn't fall in.

We tried getting a good pick of us and the waterfall.

The look back down the valley from Worthington Glacier.

Ryker marked the trail so hikers could find their way to the top.
